Camp Washington Heavy Metal Marching Band

The Camp Washington Heavy Metal Marching Band and We Wish To Communicate With You Flag Corps is a celebratory, noise making, dancing, all-inclusive, joy-filled, social revelry. The ‘Band’ is comprised of very few people who “know what they’re doing” and open to anyone who wants to join in. The concept for the band originated from Cal Cullen and is a collaboration with Margaret Darling. Several other core instrument makers are involved in the creation and fruition of this group as well including Mark Harris, Dana Hamblen, Mark deJong, Andy Marko, and more.

We are here to make noise and respond to each other in a way that feels social, connecting, and real. We’ve missed being together, and this band is a response to isolation and solitude to say “WE ARE HERE” and “WE WANT YOU TO JOIN!”

The group sometimes is part of a larger event and sometimes not.

The group has a large collection of ‘trash’ instruments - items that can make noise and sound and are often made of discarded and reclaimed things turned music makers.

Participants are invited to show up to gatherings, choose an item, find a partner, and join in the parade. There are instructions and flags to guide us along the way. We have slip on ‘uniforms’ to provide visual appeal and consistency to make our visual statement as loud as our musical one.
